Rat Portage First Nation
— Water Plant Operator
Tyler Skead is from the Rat Portage First Nation. The Wauzhushk Onigum (Rat Portage) community is located immediately south of the City of Kenora and is situated on the shores of the Lake of the Woods. First Nation. The community has 750 residents with 400 living on reserve. The water treatment plant is a Class 1 surface water plant with sand filters.
There will be two other operators working with Tyler and duties will include chlorinating, checking for chlorine residuals, taking field samples (homes, day care, learning centre, bingo hall) and maintenance work. There are 14 hydrants in the community that are maintained as well. Tyler has a good understanding of the work involved since his father is also an operator in Shoal Lake #40.
Tyler enjoys all sports and anything outdoors: fishing in the summer and winter, hunting, and camping. He enjoys his work in the plant and plans to continue and obtain his Class 1. The Centre wishes Tyler the best of luck in his future endeavours.
