Nico Suggashie (24 years old) is from Poplar Hill First Nation, a community of about 500 people near the Ontario/Manitoba border. After graduating from high school five years ago, Nico struggled to find a job. But the opportunity to train as a water operator and work in his community’s water treatment plant has led him to a career he enjoys.
With support provided by the Safe Water Project, Nico has been able to prevent a boil water advisory in his community, something he says makes him feel proud. Nico is training to become a fully certified water operator, so that he’ll be able to manage Poplar Hill’s water treatment plant on his own.
